Irish Ferries : Issues a £59 challenge

Irish Ferries is challenging travellers to find a better priced journey to Ireland this autumn as it announces the return of its £59 one-way fare for car and driver across the Irish Sea. Irish Ferries fares are not subject to hidden extras as all taxes and fuel charges are included, and (again to stress the comparison with air travel) passengers can take as much luggage as they wish.
The £59 lead-in fare is available when booking at least 28 days before travel between September 26 and December 20 2007. Prices in June and September start from £69 and in July and August from £89.
Irish Ferries operates two routes from the UK to Ireland; Holyhead to Dublin and Pembroke to Rosslare.

Norwegian: New route Gatwick-Oslo

Low-cost airline Norwegian Air Shuttle is to begin flights between Gatwick and Oslo Gardermoen on October 28 2007. The daily flights will leave Gatwick at 20.00 and arrive at 23.10 and will be in addition to the existing twice-daily flights to the Norwegian capital from Stansted.
Fares start from £34 one-way, including taxes and fees.
Norwegian has also added a new domestic route from Oslo to Longyearbyen on the Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard which will launch on March 28 2008. Svalbard is a magnificent group of islands midway between Norway and the North Pole in the Arctic Ocean, which offers unique nature experiences all year round. It is a place where the number of polar bears outnumber its human population. The route will be served twice weekly and will offer connections from many European destinations.

Aer Arann Galway-Newcastle route

June 25 2007 saw the launch of Aer Arann’s new service between Galway and Newcastle.
The new service will operate four days a week departing Galway at 6.30pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday and 7.15pm on Sunday. The return flight will depart Newcastle at 8.25pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday and 9.10pm on Sunday with a flight time of one hour and twenty five minutes. The service is operated by a 66 seater ATR72 aircraft and fares start from €45 one way including taxes.
Aer Arann’s expansion also includes the launch on June 23 of its fourth route from Cardiff, a weekly service to Nantes.

Virgin Atlantic New routes: October

Virgin Atlantic has announced that it will launch direct flights between Heathrow and Mauritius on October 28 2007, and between Gatwick and Jamaica on October 30.
The twice-weekly service to Mauritius departs London on Fridays and Sundays, returning from Mauritius on Saturdays and Mondays. The route will be operated using an Airbus A340-300 with 240 seats onboard – 34 Upper Class, 35 Premium Economy and 171 Economy.
The twice-weekly service between Gatwick and Kingston will depart on Tuesdays and Saturdays, operated by Virgin’s 451-seat Boeing 747-400 aircraft.

Flybe Announces new winter routes

Flybe has published its 2007 winter schedule, effective 28th October, which offers its biggest ever winter seat sale and the introduction of eight new routes, along with the reintroduction of popular winter services to destinations across the UK and Europe.
Flybe’s new schedule sees major expansion within the Swiss market with the launch of three brand new routes into Geneva from the Isle of Man, Jersey and Newquay.
